We're like a family here - but at work

What does this phrase mean in the context of work

Today Virginia and I talk about what it means when people say “it’s like a family” when they are talking about work.

I know a lot of families are great, and some are not. Workplaces are similar, so how does the family metaphor create expectations and establish cultural norms.

We talk about clean up crews and roles and what it feels like to be in a family that believes in the ‘behind closed doors’ kind of loyalty.

At the end, Virginia and I give a couple of tips (about minute 20) on what you can do to manage the “we’re like family” dynamic in ways that are healthy and empowering for yourself.
